Use the Pretty Soap

My mom passed away unexpectedly on the morning of April 20, 2019.

As my sister and I were going through her things, we found a stash of unused homemade soap that I’d given to her over the years.

Some of these soaps were gifts, but I had sent some of them just because she had said they were pretty or “liked” them on Facebook. Purple was her favorite color, so I had made purple soaps in a design I knew she’d like.

The last soap I gave her was an early Mother’s Day present that I was able to give her in person, a week before she passed away.

She had used some of the soaps I sent her, but most of them, according to her, were “too pretty to use,” so she saved them.

I’m in several soap making Facebook groups and this is a common theme. I have never sold at a craft fair because I work most weekends and holidays, but those who do say they hear “too pretty to use” over and over.

Soap making has become an art form. Artisan soaps can be found at most craft fairs and farmer’s markets. Look up any soap making hashtags on Instagram and you will be amazed at the soaps people are making. I am amazed by these soaps on a daily basis. The creativity is literally endless.
