The Orion Clemens House

A well-known historic residence in Carson City, Nevada

The Orion Clemens House is stop #20 on Carson City’s Kit Carson Trail. This easy walking trail takes visitors through several neighborhoods in Nevada’s State Capitol. “Carriage stone” markers identify each historic building with its name and year it was built.

Orion Clemens served as Nevada’s “first and only Territorial Secretary” between 1861 and 1864. He also served as acting governor when Territorial* Governor Nye was out of the area. Because of this, his residence was known as the “Governor’s Mansion.” Source

According to the National Park Service,

The house reflects Gothic Revival and Greek Revival stylistic influences, with 10 original interior rooms, reportedly the finest residence in the Territory when it was constructed.

This house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
