I was scrolling through Instagram like many of us tend to do when we’re just wasting time. I wasn’t really reading anything, but one post got my attention.
It said, “Stop scrolling right now, and go DO something!”
I thought, “Okay, but what should I do?”
I own a small soap-making business, so I’d been thinking it would be fun to make and sell washcloths along with my soap.
I decided to go to YouTube and look for knitting tutorials. The first one I found was posted by Hobby Lobby, so I went and found my hand-me-down knitting needles and the yarn I’d bought years ago when I thought I could knit a hat with cables with no practice.
My 93 year-old friend and roommate had tried teaching me to knit. I thought it would be easy and fun, but I quickly got frustrated, didn’t practice like she told me to, and gave up on it.
For the next several hours that night, I sat in front of the computer, re-playing the knitting tutorials. I was determined to get it right this time. I finally realized I was using a larger size of knitting needles than I needed and old, frayed yarn, but that didn’t matter. By the end of the night (around 10:30 p.m.), I had a headband!
