DRABBLE
At Least It’s Not Another Casserole
Today’s random word is Billion, and the genre is Historical Fiction.
A Drabble is a work of fiction that is exactly 100 words.
Judith dipped a chunk of heavy brown bread into her bowl of lima beans and ham. This was her favorite dinner. Today’s leftovers would be made into one of her mother’s billion casserole recipes later in the week.
Rich, salty broth soaked into the bread. The beans and ham had cooked all day while she was at school. She missed butter, but knew not to complain about the food rations.
Meat, sugar, butter, and canned food were sent to soldiers fighting overseas. Timmy, her older brother, was one of them.
She hoped he was safe and had enough to eat.
I forgot to submit this to Fiction Shorts before I hit Publish (before coffee), but check out the publication for some fun short stories!
