A day spent with friends on a river with an interesting story

My husband and I had the chance to kayak the Carson River with a group of friends. It’s early in the season, but because we didn’t get enough snow last winter, the water levels are low. We planned this trip a month in advance to make sure everyone could go.

The morning finally arrived. A few people met at our house to carpool. We fit four people, three kayaks, and a paddle board into my husband’s truck and took off. …

Hi! My name is Kim and I joined Medium in mid-October. I like to write, but I’ve never really written consistently. Most of my writing is for work, which is fun, but I don’t get to choose my topics or content. I’ve written fewer than 20 stories so far, but I’m having fun with it and I enjoy the opportunity to choose my topics and explore different ideas.

I Have a Blended Family

This week we had more of the same smoky gray skies. The smoke got worse on Saturday because the wind shifted. Smoke from two fires has settled into the valleys and doesn’t seem to be going anywhere.

The Dixie Fire is burning north of us, close to Quincy, California. The Tamarack Fire is to the south, between Gardnerville and Yerington, Nevada. Today the fire crews announced they are canceling evacuation orders for several communities. The Tamarack Fire is 27% contained, which is much better than it was!

The lead photo was taken Monday when we got a break from the…

A 6-word story summer challenge

But I found one anyway

The other day I sat down and wrote an article about skincare. I wrote it quickly, proofread, and left it for a while. When I came back to the article a little later, I read it again and decided I was happy with how it sounded.

Then I deleted the whole thing. I don’t want to write about skincare.

When I started writing on Medium, I watched a lot of YouTube videos and read a lot of the articles about writing on this platform. Most of them said to choose a niche. …
